Why mobileelements?
We're a bunch of passionate mobile technology geeks. We've built hundreds of sites through our mobile marketing business 5th Finger. Along the way we've learnt a thing or fifty about building mobile internet sites. It's hard, and there is a lot of black magic if you want an optimized mobile web experience across many phones. We decided to bring that knowledge to you shrink wrapped in an easy to consume and inexpensive service.
There are different kinds of tools out there in the market for solving the problem of mobile website optimization:
- Device databases - take WURFL or any of the other handset databases, and you've got a good start to building a mobile internet toolkit. But the part you're missing is the years of experience in leveraging raw handset data into building a highly optimized mobile website. The parts you'll need to build includes at least a search algorithm, handset detection, and image optimization. That's where we come in.
- Transcoders - take your html website and try to adapt them to work on a handset. If you're running a mom 'n' pop website, I guess this is OK. But you're quickly going to want to optimize the experience for an iphone or a wide range of handsets.
- Site-in-a-box - you login to their site builder and host your site on their very expensive proprietary mobile website builder. It's patronizing and proprietary. There are a few of these around.
We've decided to create a whole new kind of service, one that simply integrates
with your optimized mobile site. We call it a mobile internet toolkit and it's built
for web developers. It doesn't patronize you with drag-and-drop website builders
that lock you in, and it doesn't assume you understand the unfathomable structure
of modified HTTP headers of an Opera browser running on the Nokia N90 on Rogers
in Canada. A black art? It absolutely was, until now.
